To: San Francisco Bay Area Wikimedians <wikimedia-sf(a)lists.wikimedia.org>
Hi all,
Those of you in or near Marin County may be interested in the Wikipedia
Edit-a-thon Wednesday evening. The librarian there, Ivan Silva, has invited
me to talk to their patrons, and is excited about getting local history
buffs into Wikipedia editing. Join us!

thanks to everyone for helping out. I was so happy to see so many people
donating time, money, performances to create a cool environment for making
stuff!
We plan to repeat the event after the next Oakland First Friday February 7.
If anyone is interested, has cool videos, performances, drop me a line!

hi all,
please forgive me this one-time abuse of the sudo list for discussing
non-sudo issues, but i thought that this might be relevant to you or
someone you know.
i work at the nonprofit localwiki <http://localwiki.org> and due to travel
plans that will mean that we won't need to use our office in february,
we're looking for a subletter for the month.
the office fits 3 people, is furnished, has fast wifi, and is about a 10
min walk from 16th st. mission bart. it's $600/month.
if you or someone you know is interested, get in touch.
thanks,
marina
I found a cardboard box, open, shipping label says recipient was ZAFER
YASA of FEMTOCHROME RESEARCH in berkeley (shipped in april 2013)
it contains seven FPGA development boards in various states of
construction and hacking, wires hanging off etc. including a bunch of
open-hardware boards like the LX9 v1.0
there is a paper note that says W.I.P. SEPTEMBER 21
which stands for Work In Progress probably. Well it has been almost four
months, when do we get to start hacking on this stuff? There is no other
information that I can find.
Does anyone know anything about this stuff?
-jake
hi everyone,
if you're interested in meeting others working in open source, open
knowledge, open data, open [ ], this is a social event just for that.

Subject: SF Open Drinks, East Bay Edition, Jan 21 6pm
To: Dan Whaley <dwhaley(a)hypothes.is>
Hey Folks,
We’re hosting this month’s Open Drinks event in the East Bay, because … of
course!
Based on the suggestions of yonder denizens, we have settled on Free House
http://www.berkeleyfreehouse.com/
It’s just a short jaunt from the Downtown Berkeley BART station for all you
SF people.
http://goo.gl/maps/THRtN
We’ll gather around 6pm on Tuesday January 21
Look forward to seeing you all there. Moving forward we'll try to stick to
getting together every month or two, and alternating more or less both
sides of the bay based on the evolving attendance.
Please help get the word out to anyone in the open source, open science,
open data and open knowledge communities.
Also, there’s a twitter account now: @SFOpenDrinks
And I’ve just tweeted out these details, here. Perhaps you could help with
a RT. Thanks!
https://twitter.com/sfopendrinks/status/421837903052804096
See you there,
Dan
Here's a step-by-step guide to donating with Gittip:
https://sudoroom.org/wiki/Gittip
We're up to $200/week! Can we make $250 today? Have any of you been
meaning to sign up but not done it yet?
It looks like we're ramping up to move to a bigger space sometime
soon. Are you more likely to give money if we have a bigger space with
more room for projects, industrial equipment, classes, meetings, etc?
Would you be more likely to use the space? If so, would you consider
starting to give now? It will help us plan for the future to know how
much people are willing to give!
Thanks so much!
Hey-oo!
Does anybody have significant experience with (building or otherwise)
hown-grown home security systems? It seems that motion detectors with an
alert connection to a security firm (or at least to your cell phone) might
be one way I heard of. Anybody care to share their knowledge, either via
the list or in-person?

Bunker Films is creating a documentary on the Commons, and has
requested to film Sudo Room. This was discussed at the 12/18/13 meeting.
We are currently awaiting the director's response to our request that

Subject: Teen Tech Week in March
To: marina.kukso(a)gmail.com
Hey Marina,
Happy New Year!
We’re planning ahead for March and trying to invite local makers in to a
few of our branches to showcase some of the great technology that’s out
there. Our teens would love, absolutely LOVE to have a 3-D printer demo,
engage in a soldering workshop, create cute plushy LED creatures, etc. Is
there a possibility of collaborating with you in this endeavor? Teen Tech
Week is March 9-15, but our programming deadline is the end of this month,
which is why we plan so far ahead.
Let me know what you think – I’m also planning on stopping by the Sudo
Room’s event on Friday, so hopefully I’ll see you there.
Thanks!

Dear Friends :
First off -- happy New Year !
Just a reminder that the next meeting on THE OMNI is
this coming Thursday, January 9, 7PM @ 2141 Broadway !
Please join us -- we're attempting to assemble the collective-of-collectives & to figure out how to balance money & collectivity, so we need everybody's input !
Hope to see y'all on Thursday --
Love & solidarity -- David Brazil (from the Public School)
Hey all,
George has offered to replace the hydraulic system in the elevator, which
is a $1500 job according to him. He wants to ask sudo room for $250 and the
public school $100 to cover part of the cost.
I'm unsure how this fits with regard to our lease, but either way we should
figure out how to respond at the next meeting.
// Matt
all - know anyone involved with organizing at 924 Gilman? In the interests
of BAPS/Sudo co-locating to a new space, I'd like to find out how their
private 'club' system works with regards putting on events and dealing with
the city..
best,
David
Announcing change to sudo since it was placed on the sudo calendar.

Feb 1&2!
To: "doubleunion(a)lists.doubleunion.org" <doubleunion(a)lists.doubleunion.org>
Hey all!
Double Union is co-hosting the One Web For All Kickoff
Hackathon<http://onewebforall.us/>
!
It's on Feb 1&2 at New Relic in SOMA in SF, and participation is free
(though there are optional donation tickets that support DU, if you're so
inclined).
One Web For All is a new grassroots, non-profit organization helping
businesses and individuals learn more about creating welcoming, inclusive
cultures, led by Cori Johnson <https://twitter.com/iroc>, Faruk
Ateş<https://twitter.com/KuraFire>,
and Ashe Dryden <https://twitter.com/ashedryden>. The OWFA Kick-off
Hackathon is a free, non-competitive, open-to-everyone event where writers,
artists, designers, programmers, managers, editors, speakers, and many
others, all come together to help brainstorm, write, design and build out
the One Web For All community resources.
"We’re aiming to put together a series of resources that address and
counter many systemic issues people are facing every day, such as exclusive
work cultures, hostile online communities, and more. These resources will
support anyone willing to work towards a better, more inclusive world."
There's a ton more information about the hackathon and projects at
http://onewebforall.us/
Hope you can join us!

George is planning to clean the carpets in the common area tomorrow and
seems to think we are prepared for this somehow...he told me about it
Saturday afternoon, and I said "Great, but email someone else from sudo and
let them know so I'm not the only one who knows."
Well, guess what? He didn't do that, and while I'm pretty sure we can
navigate this situation it's just another example of Georgeness. (my new
catch all phrase for what he seems to engage in on a regular basis).

Thanks,
