IMPORTANT: One of your Pictures has been removed.
Hi from OkCupid.
One of your photos was flagged by OkCupid users for being inappropriate.
After being reviewed and voted on by our moderators the consensus was to
remove the photo.
The most common reasons for picture removal are:
1. The picture doesn't have YOU in it.
2. Copyrighted material
3. Extreme closeups
4. Non-photos or photos of pets, children, etc.
5. Celebrity/fake uploads
6. Disgusting stuff that scars us
7. Porn or nudity
As a rule of thumb, upload only photos of yourself
(your pets, children, and artwork belong elsewhere),
and make sure your face or body (not your tattoo or eyeball) is chosen
with the thumbnail selector.

Hi all,
I have an unexpected chunk of free time on Saturday, and I was hoping to
use it to start prepping the floors in CCL. Should be done well before the
CR event at 6pm.
I'm not planning to use a heavy-duty grinder, just a concrete prep tool like
this <http://www6.homedepot.com/tool-truck-rental/Concrete_Prep_Tool/12570/>.
I've never used one of these, but I would still expect it to make a
substantial amount of noise - at a minimum like running a high-powered
vacuum for a couple of hours. I may try to cut down on dust by running it
wet, if that is an option.
I know this is short notice, but I hope we can make it work - the floors
are the #1 obstacle holding up progress getting our lab up and running
right now, and there's just not that many times I can carve out a big chunk
of time.
It would be good if someone can check this with John as well, since we'll
be making noise right underneath him...
Thanks!
Patrik
Hi all,
I realized that for certain people who have been consistently working very,
very, very hard on the ADA & Fire Prev. infrastructure and ballroom almost
every day the last few weeks specifically in preparation for the CR event,
that its important these folks all have a chance to actually see and
feel their hard work come to fruition and even $15 may be too much.
Therefore I would like to propose an ultra late breaking request that the
following people have Omni buy their ticket, if they want to go:
- Benjamin Burke (sudo)
- Oskar (omni)
- TJ (sudo)
- Sean (sudo)
- Maximillian (FNB)
- Yar (sudo)
MANY of us have been working very hard on the ballroom, but these folks
above really have put in crazy hours for weeks straight now. I do not mean
to discount in any way the hard work of everyone.. I just feel like the
above folks have really gone just so far above and beyond, that their
effort needs to be recognized and this would be a very good way to do it.
This sort of selfless support is so admirable and inspiring and cant be
taken for granted -
Yes, I am also too broke to go, but it feels weird asking for myself
obviously. Itd be nice though and i really wish i could.
Anyhow If its okay with people id like to ask these folks get their ticket
from omni.
Would that be okay?
David
i am worried that the fans that are in the ceiling now will be removed,
and we will no longer have the option of attaching long ducts to them for
localized air/fume extraction.
is there some way we can request that the fans remain there somehow? or
some way to ventilate air out of the room? I think this is really
important.

i'm reading the wiki page but i don't see how to set up a static IP

i see that static IP addresses are below .42.50
can i just set up something to take that address and it will be fine? I
don't have to set it up somewhere else?
also.. i noticed that none of the stuff in the internet factory upstairs
is labeled - it's just wires going here and there that you have to follow.
is anyone planning on labeling that stuff?

the robot has an external disk drive which is connected to it with a
25-pin serial cable. The disk drive unit is a computer in itself, with a
lot of functionality. It boots up in "ERC MODE" meaning it's ready to
talk to the YASNAC ERC, our robot control computer.
i spied on the conversation between the robot and the disk drive while the
robot loaded a file. I saved the conversation using the salae logic
program:
https://www.saleae.com/downloads
if you run this program you can open the save file i saved:
http://spaz.org/~jake/robot/floppy-loadafile.logicdata
you will see that the format matches closely that which is described by
the communications manual:
http://spaz.org/~jake/robot/479236-17-Communications.pdf
the baud rate is 4800 baud, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, EVEN parity.
it's connected to the 3d printer computer if you want to write a program
to pretend to be a disk drive. then we can send it programs without
having to use ancient floppy diskettes.
to talk to it from that computer (whose IP address is .42.8) just run a
script called "robot" in ~sudodesk/bin/robot
it calls screen /dev/ttyS0 4800,parenb,-parodd
(that's how you get even parity with screen)
when i open that terminal, and then go to the floppy menu from the robot,
it sends the following (? means unprintable character):
ENQ?ENQ?ENQ?CAN+?CAN+?CAN+?EOT?
which means, probably; HEY ARE YOU THERE?
HEY ARE YOU THERE?
HEY ARE YOU THERE?
NEVER MIND.
NEVER MIND.
NEVER MIND.
I'M HANGING UP NOW.
see if you can get the robot to load a file from an imaginary disk drive.

Artist activist grants!
http://www.rauschenbergfoundation.org/grants/art-grants/artist-activist
Artist as Activist
Program Overview
Artist as Activist provides game-changing resources to artists (of all disciplines – visual, performing, media, and beyond), designers, and other creative professionals who are addressing important global challenges through their creative practice. In years past this support has included a commissioned print edition to benefit a particular cause or organization. Today the Artist as Activist program is comprised of three distinct grant opportunities:
Artist as Activist Fellows: artists and legally established art collectives with a demonstrated commitment to applying their creative work to the public sphere will receive up to $100,000 over two years, along with a suite of value-added support. Fellows will be selected through an open call for proposals.
Artist as Activist Travel & Research Grants: a separate pool of funds has been reserved for similar artists seeking support (ranging from $2,500 to $10,000) to travel or conduct research related to this aspect of their work. Travel/Research grantees will be selected through an open call for proposals.
Artist as Activist Organizations: Ten organizations from across the U.S. that have been exemplars in supporting artists working at the intersection of art and change will receive general operating support. These organizational grants are by invitation only.
Program Values and Beliefs
Consistent with our commitment to upholding the legacy of our founder, Robert Rauschenberg, all of RRF’s philanthropy programs operate with a set of core values that embody his work as both an artist and a philanthropist. These values include experimentation, fearlessness, and pushing boundaries. Rauschenberg also sought to learn from other cultures, and to share his own knowledge in exchange for what he learned. The Artist as Activist program retains this approach with a particular focus on:
Creative problem-solving and solutions orientation – looking at an issue in new ways that actually shift its paradigm.
Interdisciplinary collaboration – experience and enthusiasm for working with people who have a variety of expertise, experience, and training, as well as those whose beliefs, values, and norms differ from your own.
Risk-taking – an ability to move outside of the status quo; comfort with uncertainty, improvisation, and/or iteration in the context of continuous learning.
How to Apply
All eligible applicants are invited to apply for only one of these grant opportunities. Please consult the Apply Now page to review the appropriate Grant Guidelines and Online Application Instructions to prepare your letter of interest.

- There's a potential for us to sell stuff at their next art show, which
will be a full retail show in the whole space. Lots of potential for
exposure since they are the first storefront at First Friday

Troy, the SudoRoom librarian, visits our neighbors The Rock Paper Scissors
Collective <http://www.rpscollective.com/>down the street. The RPS
Collective was one of the worker’s collectives that helped start the
Oakland Art Murmur. Here he checks out the zine library and is already
coming up with ideas for different community projects.
A recent SudoRoom collaboration involved SudoRoom donating Linux computers
to RPS Collective in exchange for a beautiful sign painting. It’s pretty
cool seeing the different volunteer-run collectives creating and helping
each other out!

Terrarium Project at RPS Collective – so many happy people
Still trying to achieve fire safety & ADA accessibility by Saturday.
Lots of things happening tomorrow morning. We need:
Someone who can drive a U-haul full of waste to the following places:
* hazardous waste
* e-waste
* recycling
* solid waste
We can tell you where to go. The truck needs to be returned by
12:30pm. You'll probably need to start by 8am.
Someone to help the wheelchair lift installer starting around 9am -
simple stuff like holding and fetching tools.
And as many people as we can for spare hands during bathroom construction.
Thanks so much!!
so I was able to use a primitive magnetic encoding sequencer to read robot
programs from a flat magnetic tape.
We had some antique (literally 25 years old) diskettes in the computer
history museum, and I fed one to the robot, and then "saved" all the
programs written so far to the "diskette"
then, i used a mechanical diskette-reader for a desktop computer (which
needed lubrication on its rusty motors and slides and quite a bit of
fiddling to work) to read this magnetic tape "diskette"
the filesytem format is nothing recognized by 'mount' so i was forced to
simply dd the binary of the diskette's image to a file. I have posted the
file here:
http://spaz.org/~jake/robot/robofloppy.2
and then i edited that with vim to extract the programs within.
here is a simple program that makes 7 poses, and repeats:
http://spaz.org/~jake/robot/baby.txt
this is a more raw version of all the jobs i found on the disk image,
including some fragmentation. I don't understand the filesystem format,
so it's just luck that so many of the files were intact in one piece.
http://spaz.org/~jake/robot/jobs.txt
as you can see, a program is a list of coordinates (the six hardware axes
of the robot arm) and then a program referring to those coordinates. it
can be more complicated than that of course, for example when we start
using base or robot coordinates for 3d printing, but here it is anyway.
this stuff is documented in this PDF:
http://spaz.org/~jake/robot/479236-17-Communications.pdf
and also, i think we might find the serial communications format used by
the "diskette drive" to communicate with the robot, so we can skip the
magnetic media entirely and send programs directly to the robot over
serial.
please let me know if you're interested in this stuff and want to try
something.

Hi All. Not much notice but there is a 17' rental truck outside for general
omni debris removal. It needs to be loaded up with:
- Excess garbage (several bags)
- Construction debris from bathroom repair (lots)
- Ceiling tiles from ballroom (these are light, so may want to go in
last/on top)
- Stuff from Sudo that sudo doesn't want (the present 'to go away' piles)
- Stuff frrom basement that we don't want/need
- All City of Berkeley-stamped grey garbage cans probably should be
returned since Waste Management does not pick them up and they fill with
garbage.
No one is really here and I am starting to do it by myself and would
appreciate help. If I do this then I can't work on the bathroom, which
needs to be done by Friday.
All the waste needs to be driven to the following places tomorrow AM &
returned by 12:30pm
- Commercial Waste & Recycling by the Colesium (they open real early)
- E-waste place (in berkeley I think) for all e-waste
- the Oakland Dump tomorrow AM and returned by 12:30.
We need to generally remove junk from here that we don't need as this
really is required by fire - it can't be a total mess in the basement or
any area to be (re)inspected. We have a general mission of clearing out
junk from the omni to comply. This was specifically mentioned by the fire
inspector - everything should look like its 'in its place' (his words.)
Any and all help appreciated.

Subject: [sfchalkboard] NEED Alaskan Chainsaw Mill
To: sfchalkboard <sfchalkboard(a)lists.riseup.net>
Hey everyone,
This might be far fetched, but does anyone have an Alaska and Chainsaw Mill
or another jig of sorts for cutting lumber?
Was offered some Redwood logs, would love to mill them but not finding any
DIY solutions out there! Some potential to weld something together but
dunno if they would be able to in the time they want the logs out of there
: (
Thanks a bunch!

Today Counter Culture Labs failed to pick up our new biosafety cabinet.
We need someone or some device that can move a large 680 pound 6 foot wide,
top heavy cabinet from its stand at about waist height, down to a couple of
ground-level dollies so we can wheel it through a normal-sized doorway.
Can you help?
This is in redwood city. If we can get it onto dollies, we can move it from
there.
I have no experience with this sort of thing. We showed up with five people
and even with one of the employees at the location helping we didn't feel
comfortable even trying it, as it could easily result in serious injury.
We put down half of the $500 price as a deposit, unscrewed the removable
components and took them with us. We'd like to try to pick it up within the
next week.
It is the NU-425-600 model from this page:

hey sudoroom,
i met this guy today at noisebridge (i know, i said i don't go there
anymore) and he is doing some amazing stuff!!! We all have so much to
learn from him, and be inspired by him.
here is a recent post from his website, watch the video:
http://onyx-ashanti.com/2014/07/11/the-nomadic-diary-of-onyx-ashanti-episod…
basically he has been making amazing WEARABLE technology for purposes of
music and other forms of electronic expression, in the most organic way i
have ever seen technology used.
He is using electronics, embedded systems (wireless arduinos with
accelerometers, force sensors, buttons, lights etc) and hardware (servo
motors and haptic feedback vibes) in concert with extremely ergonomic
(again organic) structures made with 3d printing, to make human interface
devices for making music (in puredata). He uses a bunch of different
filament types (even conductive filament) and a heavily customized very
portable 3d printer.
my only disappointment is that none of his circuits or 3d models are on
github, although he says that the stuff he is working on now will be
released freely as soon as he is satisfied with it. I hope that is soon.
in the meantime, here's his github, which has a couple of puredata
repositories (puredata is the FOSS version of MaxMSP)
https://github.com/onyxashanti
even without code or files from his designs, i was very inspired by his
work and his energy and his attitude. as for the circuits and the
robotics code, it's nothing I couldn't make from scratch quickly. but the
ideas that he had for this stuff are ideas that i never had, even though
they seem "obvious" after the fact. But so few of us are lucky enough to
look at technology from a purely interactive perspective like he seems to.
he said he would gladly come to sudoroom "any time" and I have his contact
to let him know.
Is there any reason I shouldn't tell him to come to sudoroom on saturday
at around 5 or 6 pm? is anyone interested in seeing the stuff he does
with music, puredata patches, 3d printing, wearable embedded wireless
electronics, robotics (the expressive tentacle thing) etc?

so all the manuals i have for the robot are SCANS of some sort of papyrus,
upon which the instructions were once inscribed.
this means they are not searchable. It seems at first that they can be
searched, and copy and paste, but that is only the safety warning pages
inserted by the people who scanned the pages into the PDF. None of the
content is searchable!
if you know how to do OCR (optical character recognition) on a PDF and
make it so that one can still search the PDF without altering its readable
appearance, please do so to some of the manuals here:
http://spaz.org/~jake/robot
highest priority would be the programming manual:
http://spaz.org/~jake/robot/479950-3-Programming_manual_v4.pdf
and the robot arm manual:
http://spaz.org/~jake/robot/479951-4-K10S_manual.pdf
this would be an example of a PDF that has the scanned parts searchable:
http://spaz.org/~jake/robot/02-TOE-C945-111%20-%20Service%20manual%20Motoma…

Want to have our own networked radiation monitoring station? The Global
Radiation Monitoring Network is looking to add nodes to their network
<http://www.uradmonitor.com/join-the-network/>.
They only have two dozen or so nodes around the world so far, and none in
California. "In this early phase of the project, there is only a minimal,
non-profit cost, to cover the hardware components used and the shipping."
The nodes are weatherproofed, and only need 5V power and an ethernet cable.
Is this something that could potentially be piggy-backed on to the sudo
mesh nodes as well? One of their node models has a barometric pressure
sensor as well. Not sure to what extent this is an open source project, but
we could find out.
They were just featured as one of the semifinalists for the Hackaday prize
<http://hackaday.com/2014/09/11/global-radiation-monitoring-network-update/>,
so I expect they'll be getting an influx of new node requests...

Hi Sudo'ers
As many of you know I'm trying to help spread biohacking across CA, the US
and internationally (I've been pushing hacker spaces at XPRIZE too as a way
to democratize innovation) and we need your help!
I'm currently helping a group of LA biohackers (including Cory Tobin and
other LAB members) to try to raise money for a large non-profit community
biotech lab in LA through LA2050. We're close, as in really close, we're in
the number 2 spot and we were in the number 1 spot but just recently lost
the no 1 spot. The rest of the teams are arts collectives (which we also
love) but we're the only science and tech entry and we'd love to bring more
science down to LA.
If the voting is successful they'll be a lab down in LA that we can all
collaborate with and visit with, the team and I would REALLY appreciate the
votes. If you have time to vote, it's really quick and it would help us a
lot:

Hopefully within a few months we'll be able to have a new LA community
biohacker night and invite you all to attend!
All the best,

Hello everyone!
We’re having a house show at Stanza/Hackistan (3276 Logan St) on Sunday. We have three bands lined up but will also have open mic time. If you have a creative hack project or musical act, come out and share it!
Looking forward to seeing what we’ll create.

I received a request to talk about hacktivism to UC Berkeley law students. I'm not really the best person for this. (They may have me there, anyway, to talk about TV-B-Gone.)
Would you like to talk about hacktivism? If so, please contact Eric, who's organizing the event:
debellis(a)berkeley.edu
Here's the email he sent me, with me info :
Dear Mr. Altman: Hello. My name is Eric DeBellis. I am a former Allen Hall
resident and current law student at the University of California, Berkeley.
As a co-leader for the National Lawyers Guild Berkeley Law Chapter, I am
wondering if you would be interested in visiting Berkeley Law to speak on
the topic of hacktivism. We are planning to host two speakers. One would be
a Berkeley Law professor who represents a more “establishment” perspective
on the issue, so we were thinking that reaching out to you as the second
speaker makes sense. I understand that political hacktivism is not your
focus, but you’re a part of the hacker community, and you’re approachable
and quite good at conveying your passions to unfamiliar audiences. We would
not be asking you to debate the professor. Rather, you’d explain hacking in
general, then how hacking has entered the political activism realm, then
the professor would talk about it in more legalese terms. After, we’d open
it up to questions/discussions from a group of students. As for the topic,
Anonymous’s involvement in protests in Jefferson, Missouri is a particular
area of interest for students, so we would like to use that as an
illustration, but only as a launchpad to discuss broader issues that
interest you and your counterpart. We do not have a date as of yet, but
funding likely would be available. At the very least, we would provide a
tasty lunch and a room of eager minds. If you’re interested, we would love
to host you for lunch. Please contact me with any questions. Sincerely,
Eric DeBellis
Best,
Mitch.

Workers, Students, and youth,
Last night, Barack Obama announced that the United States would be
escalating its military operation in not just Iraq and Syria, but
anywhere he perceived a threat to US interests in the Middle East.
You should come, Tuesday, 5pm, UC Berkeley, to the International Youth
and Student for Social Equality's first regular weekly meeting. ROOM #:
TBA on Monday
At this meeting you will learn everything there is to know about what is
going on in Syria and Iraq.
-CIA's several year arm smuggling campaign through the Jordanian border
into Syria
-US Military's awareness that the majority of these arms were fueling
Jihadist Militias, eventually falling into the hands of ISIS.
-The underlying political and economic reasons behind the current
escalation of militarism and war.
-Why war abroad is accompanied by attacks on workers and youth at home.

My friend Hao of Dorabot wrote me an email that clarifies what we can
expect from the robot. Of course this assumes no hacking, and we can
hack.
one thing I was interested in was "remote" mode through the serial port.
I believe that it can be set to be controlled by commands like "let me
send you this job" "start that job" which would allow us to effectively
control it in real time.
but that will take some reading of manuals and experimenting. As for the
latter, i have connected the robot's serial port to the desktop computer
we use for 3d printing, and I can provide logins for that machine to
anyone who wants to experiment. I confirmed that with the null-modem
adaptor (thanks Somebody!) it does communicate, although i haven't had any
meaningful conversations with it.
of course there is always the radical alternative - the entire YASNAC
control system could be replaced with a homebrew solution that allows us
to do whatever we want. The problem is that it would take a bit of
programming to drive the axes at speed without overshoot, and there's
dynamic gravity and inertia dependant on the posture of the thing and the
mass of whatever it's holding.. could be a lot of math to get it perfect.
however, if someone were to create a control program for it, a lot of
people around the world might like to use it. Hell, people would probably
pay for it since it would easily replace an entire YASNAC ERC unit.
the motor controllers we have are the CACR series as described here:
http://spaz.org/~jake/robot/CACR-SR-servopinouts.pdf
and they are pretty simple to control - you send them an analog voltage to
tell them which direction to turn, and how fast. You send an analog
voltage to say how much torque to exert (seperately for each direction),
and it sends out analog voltages telling you how fast it is going, and how
much torque it's exerting. And of course the encoders are always telling
you the actual position for all the axes so you can decide whether to make
changes to get what you want.
in the meantime though, we should keep playing with it as-is and see if we
can "hack" to get control of it without anything as radical as a
replacement controller.

There are several models of MOTOMAN robot that can be controlled over
serial port, and some even supported by ROS Industrial community. If your
Robot controller is DX100, then you are very lucky.
However I think your robot is super old so probably not supported by ROS
Industrial. You can check it out here:
http://wiki.ros.org/Industrial/supported_hardware
Anyway, usually an industrial robot can be used in following ways:
Teach & Replay by teach panel
offline programming (generate a tool path offline and upload it, like 3D printer)
modern robot can be used in these ways, in addition to previous ones:
online program uploading (you generate end-effector/tool path and upload
to the robot control box via serial port/ethernet, and the robot executed
it right after it receives the path.
very few robot support this: real-time control of the robot joint,
including position, velocity, acceleration and so on. As far as I know,
only Universal Robot and maybe Baxter support this. Kuka/DLR's LBR(Light
Weight Robot) might support it too, but it's not for sale to general
public.

Sorry to beat a dead horse here, but just for the record ...
1) To bill Saturday's show as apolitical "entertainment" would be
disingenuous. They did not invite Dan Siegel the private citizen to
chat with him about his hobbies. They invited three candidates for an
upcoming election to air campaign commercials, give stump speeches and
answer token questions about their political platform. Exactly that,
no more, no less.
2) Absolutely nothing in my critique was "radical". It was barely even
liberal. Asking for substantive debate is about the most centrist
position you could possibly imagine. Has our overton window really
shifted this much?
I invite all who care about the future of Oakland, the vitality of the local people of Oakland as well as the future of our movements toward a more equitable and resilient community of partners to attend this meeting with me

They had 3 mayoral candidates in the room (parker, tuman, siegel), but
chose to interview one candidate at a time. Each candidate got an
uninterrupted stump speech, pandering questions from the hosts, then 2
ad-hoc audience questions, and that was it. One even screened a
commercial.
I was disappointed and insulted because I'd heard it was going to be a
"debate." Maybe it got distorted in the rumor-mill. But either way,
this candidate-showcasing style of engagement is something people have
fought against for ages. It's passive, undemocratic, and pointless. If
we're going to engage with electoral politics we should know this
history. Here's the League of Women Voters explaining why they stopped
hosting presidential "debates" in 1988:
http://www.lwv.org/press-releases/league-refuses-help-perpetrate-fraud
Some more history:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_presidential_election_debates#D…
I think at minimum, a debate needs to:
* force candidates to interact with each other
* invite all candidates at the same time
* prioritize audience participation and engagement
We missed an opportunity - we had them on our turf and did nothing new
with them - but it's not too late. On October 11 they're hosting 3
more (schaaf, kaplan, quan). Maybe ONL will be open to input on how
they conduct next month's event! Any Sudoers who want to ask tough
questions on the record of present and future mayors on our turf,
now's your chance to get involved. :)

to all those who have expressed interest in hacking the robot,
i hope to come to sudoroom tonight to play with it some more.
i have bolts with which to bolt it down to its pallet, and I will add
2x4 boards to the pallet to make it less likely to tip over. It won't be
perfect but it will be good enough to play with, and still easy to move to
a different location when the time comes.
If you haven't already started, start reading the fucking manuals at this
site:
http://spaz.org/~jake/robot/
specifically,
http://spaz.org/~jake/robot/479950-3-Programming_manual_v4.pdf
and if you're into coding and want to control it from a real computer,
read this one (and some others, not sure which) starting around page 43
(page 49 of the PDF):
http://spaz.org/~jake/robot/479236-17-Communications.pdf
I will take care of physically connecting it to the serial port of the
3d-printing desktop computer, so you can connect over the network and
operate it that way without having to connect the robot to your laptop.
Tonight (assuming i make it to sudo on time) i intend to program it to
shake its maraca vigorously to the beat of some music, and bolt it down to
its platform.. not necessarily in that order. Oh and hook up the serial
cord.
-jake
i feel ridiculous asking for a null-modem adaptor...
and certainly one can be made with a bit of soldering on a regular cable
(which we have extras of)
but if anyone has a null-modem adaptor laying around, i think we need it
for the robot. A DE-9 to DE-9 (male to female) would be ideal, although a
DB-25 one would work too. Even if it goes from 25 to 9 pins that would be
fine. We have lots of regular serial cables.
This is to hook the 3d-printing desktop computer up to the robot, so we
can make it do more stuff. I am not sure a null-modem adaptor is needed,
but it doesn't seem to say anything at all without one so i'm guessing
that's the problem. Normally a disk drive (which we have) plugs into this
port on the robot, so to connect the robot to a computer would suggest
DTE-DTE which would require a null-modem adaptor.
-jake
* there is no such thing as a DB-9 connector:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Data_terminal_equipment
Howdy,
Let me begin with thanking you for looking at the proposal. Your
interpretation of the plans is correct.{ Main -> above stage panel ->
balcony panel } is how the proposed plan is drawn. There is enough room in
the balcony panel (which is the one located in the small room that shares a
wall with the server loft of sudoroom) to accomplish phase 1 of the
proposal. The proposal is based on instruction received to minimize cost.
Ideally, there would be a main panel breaker that supplies a sub panel for
all of sudo's needs (phase 1 and phase 2). I can't accurately guess at a
cost number for this type of installation. Figure a 100amp sub with
hundreds of feet of 2awg plus breaker box plus breakers plus conduit plus
hardware. All depending on if the main service can even handle the
additional power demands (hiring an electrician to run the calcs). Ballpark
$3-5k maybe- but its really a shot in the dark?
My experience with this type of thing is there is always a better way to do
it, if you go the money.
A middle road is to plan on having the future sudo-sub panel placed near
the balcony panel. Build in an extra 5ft or so of wire for the future
transition into the new sudo-sub panel. All that would be needed is to
remove the breakers from the old box re-run wire from J-box 1 to the new
sudo-sub, as well as re-routing the 240V lines from the above stage panel
to the sudo-sub (and of course preform all the main -> suod-sub work).
as far as existing vs proposed. only the sub panels mentioned above exist
currently- I'll make a note to call out the existing stuff in the drawings.
Thanks,
Whit
