I think it would make more sense to put signs up saying "if you leave anything in your car, the windows will get broken and it will be stolen, even if it's covered up by an old shirt." after all, there is a camera on the corner (pointed at omni) and it probably captures lots of car burglaries - i don't think anyone gets busted that way. I think that the majority of white america is mostly ignorant of these realities, and that it would be a good idea to make a poster that explains it, in plain english, so that good-intentioned people can be informed. I don't think the suggestion to summon police would have been made by someone aware of these issues. I think that the most direct route to awareness will be signs, posters and flyers, directed toward people who should know better, but don't. Of course it's the duty of the privileged to educate themselves, but as a community of people who are in possession of this knowledge, we should do what we can to make sure newcomers to our community are informed of this important issue, to prevent a repeating pattern of ignorant accidents.
