dear Sudoroom,
we have an important topic to discuss as Sudoroom because the delegates are
discussing an important topic very soon, possibly as early as Thursday.
Let's meet on Wednesday at 8PM, primarily online although I hope some of us
will be in the space for the meeting.
Last time someone joined the meeting anonymously and was putting things in the
notes that were distracting from the meeting. I propose that we don't allow
anonymous participation at this next meeting, for various reasons. If someone
needs to participate without revealing their identity, they should have
someone who is not anonymous represent them.

I disagree with this proposal.
People need to be anonymous to feel safe speaking in oppressive spaces like
this, and they should be allowed to have a voice, instead of told their
vote does not count.

I disagree with the proposal to suppress anonymous participation in
sudoroom meetings. The meeting facilitator can resolve situations where a
participant is disrupting the meeting. It isn't relevant if participants
who disrupt meetings are anonymous or not.

Anonymous participation means that anyone can tune in and listen to what
we're saying without accountability.
Would you feel comfortable allowing police or federal agents into our
meeting? Because I would not.

I hope that through the efforts I've made on the membership working group
I've earned the trust of anyone who feels unable to speak to come to me
directly. I recognize that there are a lot of things needed to make this a
place of warmth and kindness, but I think participating anonymously --
while an understandable consequence of a hostile environment -- is
incongruent with efforts to remediate the culture of Sudo Room.
I can't be at tomorrow's meeting, so I'll leave it to the facilitator and
attendees of tomorrow's meeting to resolve the issue of it arises. But if
you're someone who wishes to participate anonymously, please pick up the
phone and call or text me. The membership working group (now down to just
me) can't do our job of advocating for folks without people telling us when
they have a problem.

I think there is some equivocation happening here:
* anonymous: a word meaning somebody with no name at all, who could be anybody
* pseudonymous: a word meaning somebody with an alternative name to
the one they normally go by
* autonomous - a word meaning free from external control
* Autonomous - the pseudonym chosen by a sudoroom member in good
standing, who I have met and can vouch for
