FWIW, I took a break and measured it.. the utility's room's actually
wide, and the hallway behind it with the stoves and stuff, is like
9'4". That is really weird that the actual measure is so far off of the
Has anyone noticed how this is a really weird building?

Ok so - it's confusing.. i should make a drawing.
That's not the Rise
Above proposal -
At worst the Rise Above proposal would require narrowing the part of the
hallway a bit where the fridge and stoves are. Looking at the detail
drawing measurements though, if they are correct, that may not actually be
necessary - Rise Above needs 11' to work in, the narrow part of the room
measures on paper at 13'3". So, that room needs to be measured IRL before
making that drawing.
The only door that would be put in for Rise Above, would be into the
existing doorframe on the west end of the utility room.
Re: the La Commune proposal of closing off the bar-room, the thing is the
proposal unfortunately does not comply with ADA or Fire for the uses and
hours we intend in the building. For the bar-room to be closed off, there
could be no legal public access to the ballroom. The bar-room must be
accessible for the ballroom to be accessible. So that part of the La
Commune proposal is not implementable presently at any rate. Given this I
would not consider that part of their proposal possible. But even if the La
Commune proposal was possible, Rise Above would not be blocking access from
sudo/ccl to the 48th st doors.
Remember the kitchen can't really legally be there. The stuff in the
kitchen is what is choking up that egress more than moving the wall back a
couple feet would (which it is not clear we have to do anyhow.)

"I'm so excited to become a part of the Omni collective. In walking
around the building I've identified an area I think will work well for my
studio. It is the current utility room and kitchen adjacent to the cafe.
Since the kitchen will be moved downstairs anyway I figure we can take down
the non load bearing wall between those two spaces and make it an area big
enough to house my printing press, heaters, tables and storage."
there was another proposal on the table for La Commune to block the
entire entry via the door we normally take to access sudo/ccl after 6pm,
with the suggested alternative that we have access via the doors at the end
of the hallway/kitchen onto 48th street. i don't think splitting access to
a separate entryway after 6pm is the preferred alternative from hearing
everyone's input, but if it were there would be a potential conflict
between that idea and converting the area that is now the kitchen into a

I was just saying, in the detail drawing there is enough room for the
press, but it doesn't seem to match what I measured in real life - I was
hoping someone could go check real quick, and maybe measure the width of
the kitchen-area hallway too.
