The Internet is great because it belongs to all of us equally. It's a level
playing field -- whether you want to promote your music, apply for a job,
play a game or start a business. But that could soon change.
The web as we know it today is founded on the principle of *'Net Neutrality*:'
The idea that "content" should be given the same priority no matter who
it's coming from and who it's going to. Policymakers in the U.S. are
currently considering whether or not to adopt rules that protect Net
Neutrality. Millions of people asked them to. Even President Obama (
http://www.whitehouse.gov/net-neutrality).
*Come learn more about your digital rights and what Net Neutrality means
for you – and actions you can take!*

No one has raised any concerns about cancelling. So, as the facilitator
I'm saying, see you next Thursday! Will someone announce it on the FB page
and calendar?
Love, Laura

OK, I'm sensing a shift toward cancelling the meeting.
Is there anyone out there who would be negatively affected if we do not
meet? I mean, besides missing seeing you all!
We need a process for making this decision in the future. Whose call is it?
We also need a lot of hands on deck Sunday, so come then if we don't have
the meeting tonight.

Hi all!
First, the good news: The one big-ish leak in the concrete room aka Sudo
Room at 4799 appears to have been totally fixed. It appears to have been
fixed by Rick who took photos of what he did to fix it and I uploaded them
to a public Google Drive for our reference here:
https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0ByjR12L1MEjCU3hqeEhCSS03MXM&usp=sha…
Second, the bad news: New leaks in the skylight in the middle of the room
immediately south of the one that was just fixed (above sudo's area, now).
These new leaks are not as bad as the previous one.
There are two main spots in that skylight that are leaking:
- the main leak in this particular skylight is along the west edge of the
skylight, just as with the one that was leaking before.
- a secondary leak is coming from under the vent that is in this skylight.
Both spots have been marked on the floor with new 'X's in blue painters'
tape. Please leave those x's there until the leaks have been addressed
(fwiw though the old 'x' in the CCL area can be removed now.)
The landlord, the roofer, and the skylight guy have been notified. Skylight
guy came by today to take a look also and I showed him.
It would seem that a similar fix to this other skylight would take care of
its main leak. The secondary leak under the vent in this skylight could
perhaps possibly be abated by closing the vent.. somehow, since it is so
high up we are not entirely sure how to do this. But, none of the other
skylight vents (that are also open) are leaking so far, so we're not sure
what it is about this one vent that is leaking. Hm.
I did not find any other leaks in the building so far aside from this one,
so that's good. As always, let the list know if anyone finds a new leak!
Best,
David
Catalyst Project event folks have located someone to record and livestream
the panel. The videographer wants to know what speed our wifi connection is
- does anyone know? Thanks!
16 (10ft) pews and 1 (12ft) pew? These folks have extras they don't need:
https://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/zip/4795888787.html
Imagine putting them on wheels... we could push them aside around the room
for a two-row deep circle of seating around the big open floor.
this is the page for the circuitboard to make the vending machine
controllable by a microcontroller like the Beaglebone Black, or similar:
https://github.com/sudoroom/hackomat
i have placed all the parts on the circuitboard layout, but someone still
needs to do the wiring. please let me know if you're interested.

Hi all,
Some Noisebridgers came by sudo's meeting tonight and informed us that Sid
Scott, whom they banned from Noisebridge, is back in town and attempted to
re-enter Noisebridge today.
Sudo Room has a reciprocal ban agreement with Noisebridge. Do not let him
in, and please contact me if you'd like more information.
Here is his photo: https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/File:Sid_20140222.jpeg
Here is the Noisebridge 86'd page: https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/86

I have acquired two Canon SD600 digital cameras for a bookscanner for
sudoroom.
these cameras are good for a bookscanner because they can run chdk and
thus be set to operate very cooperatively with a bookscanner. plus they
are good cameras.
the reason there are two is because a good bookscanner photographs both
left and right pages at the same time. The user flips the page, lowers
the glass panels (which flatten the pages) and presses a single shutter
button.
if anyone here wants to make a bookscanner, and someone is willing to
bottomline the project (not me) i will hand over the cameras.

23b shop in Fullerton California is having a small hacker con this January
23-25th. Right now talk slots are heavy on electronics and machining, but
we have open slots if software folks are inclined to talk. If you happen to
be in Southern California in January, stop on in and say hi to another
hackerspace.
