Hello Counter Culture and Sudo-room people. My current research effort is
toward electromagnetic medicine. In past years I automated an enzyme reaction
and applied tuned electromagnetic fields, from radio-frequency to ultraviolet
in search for a non-thermal reaction rate effect. Now I am concentrating on
millimeter wave tuning to promote a gene expression or enzyme reaction. I seek
collaboration with a biologist to perform experiments in-vitro and later
in-vivo. I plan to visit Counter Culture Lab this Tuesday evening and will
elaborate on my resources and strategy. Attached is the microwave enzyme
stimulator under construction in my lab. I have additional projects that are
developed but beg for collaboration: Resolution of wave-particle duality (this
worked, see link), ultimate connectors, slanted spine bookbinding, and musical
instrument inventions.
Thank You,

We need to demo the wooden bookcase in the far corner of sudo bordering ccl
and move two of the cabinets in there. They've already been cleared off and
sorted. There's a lot of junk to move to trash or my car for an ewaste run
tmrw. Right now just me n robb hustlin. If anyone's got a cycle in them to
demo, move the cabinets and/or clean, would be hella rad!
Do you have any reference links for the upgrades? We have the same over at
Sudo and I've noticed it's pretty inconsistent. Wondering if we should
pursue upgrading as well.

Hi everyone,
A final update/reminder for this weekend's activities.
The Bookfair and Bastard conference will be using the entrance hall and
ballroom this weekend and those spaces need to be completely clear to
fit the bookfair tables. I'll be working on moving stuff today and
tomorrow if anyone has some time to help out. Message or email me to
find out when I will be at the Omni. The set up crew from the Bookfair
will be here Friday night.
These events are a great opportunity for collectives to share info with
activists. Omni doesn't have an official table, but Julian has
volunteered to coordinate one that will be located somewhere else in the
building. Thanks Julian! He sent an email about this a day or so ago.
Please be in touch with him to take a tabling shift or give him
materials from your collective that you would like to have at the table.
I would love to see some kind of activities going on in Sudo and CCL to
showcase what you all are doing.
Collectives and related groups that DO have Bookfair tables are Phat
Beets, TIL, GWS, Stinney Distro. FNB will be serving. If you are
interested inn helping any of them with their tables, please contact
them directly.
If you would like to help out with Omni tasks during the Bookfair, let
me know. If you want to help during BASTARD Conference, Katrina is the
point person.

Me thinks they'd be best between sudo/ccl. Maybe put combo lock on one for
active projects

It's probably easier to put them in the basement until we figure out where
they should go in sudo. Against the back wall? Replace the dividing wall
between sudo and ccl? Where should the material stock go, where the wire
rack is now? So many questions :-)

Anyway yes, I checked out these cabinets and overall they look pretty
solid. They would be very ideal for storing parts in, as well as flammables
which probably shouldn't be left out... (eg, oils, alcohols).

Hey all,
Tried reaching main website https://sudoroom.org several times this
afternoon and evening. It doesn't seem to be responding.
Also tried.....
- using 'sudo ping www.sudoroom.org', it times out and doesn't complete
- ditto " for 'sudo ping 104.236.181.202' "
- 'sudo traceroute www.sudoroom.org' reaches last router
digitalocean-ic-302451-sjo-b21.c.telia.net (62.115.34.18) in 24.010 ms
23.958 ms 24.266 ms and then doesn't complete its roundtrip
The fact that you all may be receiving this email _separately_ rather than
from the sudo-discuss list also indicates something is wrong.
Any idea of what's going on and/or what needs to be done?
Best,

Greetings sudo!
We've had some great momentum these past few weeks, especially on Tuesday
nights, organizing our resources and separating the cruft. On September
16th, the Omni will be hosting the Bay Area Anarchist Bookfair, and thus
the building will be swarming with awesome radicals from all over. I
propose having the space looking spacious and beautiful by September 15th.
Abe suggested this would be a great opportunity for us to host some
workshops in the back.
At last night's mesh meeting, we discussed having a mini-BYOI (Build Your
Own Internet) workshop, and announce the larger one we'll be hosting the
following Saturday for those interested in learning more.
The Bookfair runs from 10am-6pm. Robb and I are thinking we should organize
an afterparty. Not sure if there is anything already planned, but it makes
sense and would be hella fun :)
Thoughts / volunteers to host an open house, afterparty and/or some other
workshops that day?

I am making a light-up sign and need to cut some letters into a 6'x3.5'

Do you have the expertise to do this, and access to a machine? There is
some $ in it for your time.

Greetings omninoms,
The newly-regrouped Building Working Group will be hosting an all-day,
building-wide work party this Saturday, Sep 2nd.
Planned projects include:
* Painting the Entrance Hall
* Reorganizing and rodent-proofing the storage closets
* Sealing off the basement vent above water heater (rodent-proofing)
* Replacing the sudo/ccl bathroom faucet, other various plumbing repairs
around the building (folx with plumbing skillz needed)
* Mounting the front door motor for automated door opener
* Patching the basement south wall
...but feel free to take on any task or repair that you've been wanting to
tackle, or assist with general cleaning :)
Come by any time throughout the day and lend a hand! Free lunch for all
volunteers ^_^
Also - if you're available to help prep the walls of the Entrance Hall this
week (patching holes and spackling), please contact me or Robb directly.
Love and solidarity,
Jenny

Subject: [omni-discuss] Anarchist Bookfair at Omni 9/16
To: "discuss(a)lists.omnicommons.org" <discuss(a)lists.omnicommons.org>
Hey Commoners,
I want to make sure everyone knows that we have a big all-day event on
Saturday 9/16 that is an opportunity for collectives to let politically
aligned folks know what is going on at the Omni. The Anarchist Bookfair is
an event we have wanted to host for a long time and I would love to see our
collectives have a presence. The fair will be using the entire entrance and
and ballroom floor area, but there are other things you can do if you don't
have an official table. Omni doesn't have one :/
I encourage you to:
- set up a table in either of the mezzanine areas with information about
what you are doing and how people can get involved
- have copies of your brochures ready to put out. If you aren't going to be
there, give them to another Omni group to display
The Sudo/CCL area will probably have a lot of people walking through to
check it out. It would be great to have people there ready to talk about
their group and the Omni.
See you at the Bookfair!

hey sudoers,
i met w/Lisa Rein this afternoon. she asked me to do the live stream of the
Aaron Swartz Hackathon at internet archive on nov. 4-5.
she's going to pay me but i'm going to donate the $ to sudoroom.
if anyone wants to collaborate, plz, let me know.
plan so far:
multi-camera shoot of the stage
webpage of live or uploaded video from associated hackathons around the
globe
wandering camera stream
semi-autonomous video corner for interviews or whatever
remote Barret Brown interview/presentation from texas
remote video exchanges from other hackathons
use jangouts <https://github.com/jangouts/jangouts> for remote participants
additionally, i'll be going to internet archive w/Lisa sometime in the next
few weeks & expect to get a chance to talk to Brewster about the $10,000 he
said he'd give Omni Commons when we bought the building :)
cheers

i am ordering repair parts for the sudoroom bandsaw, including "bandsaw tires"
(rubber rings that ride on the rollers inside the saw so the blade doesn't fall
off anymore)
but it's still missing the "throat plate" or "table insert" which is a square
plate with a slot cut into it, and it's what holds up the material being cut.
it needs to be 1/8" thick and 1.5" square, and then we can use the bandsaw to
cut the slot into it (that's the easy part)
it looks a lot like this, except it should be made of metal ideally:
https://cdn.instructables.com/FJG/0GY9/H82U8CS5/FJG0GY9H82U8CS5.LARGE.jpg
however if it's made of plastic or acrylic or something not as strong as metal,
it will have to be thicker than 1/8" (except at the edges where it has to sit
on the shelf)
here's a video of someone making one from scratch:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hsWLQDdWlG0
can someone make this plate? ideally out of aluminum, i think.

Subject: [Noisebridge-discuss] Glider Ink - a hackerspace graphic novel
To: noisebridge-discuss(a)lists.noisebridge.net
Hey!
Last year I realized that the notion of hackerspace and
hackers-as-makers, not just blackhat anarchists is totally absent from
the mainstream culture. Watch Dogs 2 had a huge opportunity to change
this, but they only presented warring gangs and vigilantes trying to
bring down evil corporations.
After gathering some stories from European, US and African Spaces I
decided to create Glider Ink - https://glider.ink/ , a fictional story
based on real events and characters I met. I have already managed to
find the most common archetypes and create five main characters based on
them: Inventor, Activist, Troll, Anarchist and Maker. I'd like to focus
on the community aspect and how we can create things together, as
opposed to the Silicon Valley lone genius concept.
Even though I originally wanted to set the story in Poland, I might be
changing that to some more or less defined European city. Seeing hackers
from all over the world, especially Kenya or Philippines I really don't
want to enforce the stereotype that all of them needs to be white.
I'm still working on a script which would be enjoyable both for actual
hackers and people who haven't heard about them before. All of my work -
licensed on Creative Commons - is available at https://wiki.glider.ink/
. You are welcome to comment on it, share your own stories and ideas! If
you'd like to register on the wiki, just ping me.
Sadly, I found it that very few artists are up to the challenge of
trying a de-facto new genre, creating a positive outlook on technology
outside of dark cyberpunk. If you know any graphic novel illustrator who
might be interested in working on this project (fully paid of course),
I'll gladly meet them!
Art styles I'm looking for:

Nick Bertoni created a community workspace where people could come and build
and learn with all types of tools and technology, mostly in the 1980's and
1990's. He also collected a lot of tools and materials, including an
electronics lab, from which I already acquired stuff for sudoroom.
This weekend you should go to the tool sale, even if you don't need anything,
just to see all the awesome stuff. And certainly if you need something, no
matter how weird or rare it is (or you never knew it existed) it will be there.
I can tell you that the Sorensen DCR 20-25B works perfectly since I repaired it
years ago. It's a 20V 25A regulated power supply.
Attached is the Craigslist post for the sale, which will take place
10am-4pm saturday and sunday.
It was written by a family friend who is an antiques dealer so it may not
highlight the electronic / pneumatic elements in terms of what some people
in maker-centric circles might be interested.
https://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/gms/6268543313.html
Barbera Brady stopped by offering to donate these cabinets & cost of uhaul
if needed.
She met Adam & thought sudoroom might want them as they were her father's &
he was a hacker/engineer type.
Ideally, we would get them by the end of August if not sooner
we've talked about this before but..
does anyone object to selling/giving away the giant JUKI sewing machine table AND
embroidery machine table?
i wish we could keep the latter (it's really cool when it works!) but since I
haven't been able to get it to work (and i tried) i'm ready to give up on it.
if nobody objects or offers a plan, i'll post them on craigslist and get them
out of the space, for free if necessary.
-jake
Hello Folks,
This email is to let you know that this Friday, Aug 11th, some of us will
be re-routing the network cables at the Sudoroom server area. The whole
building will not have Internet access during this process, which we
estimate will happen between 9:30am - 12:30pm.
Thank you, and please let us know if you have any questions.

Why do you want to be a member of sudo room?: Since quitting a data
scientist job two years ago I have been travelling and doing other non-tech
stuff, so my programming skills have become a bit rusty. I am looking for a
space and community in which I can unrust those skills, and get back into
things.
If you know already, what are you excited to do at sudo room?: To unrust my
programming skills and learn new ones I plan to pursue a few small toy
projects, like doing some data visualization of US census data. Also
interested in learning how to build a project around Ethereum smart
contracts.
But my real passion is around using VR to induce altered states of
consciousness for therapeutic, recreational, and spiritual ends.
If you know already, what are you excited to share with the sudo room
community?: Not sure yet, some of what I have learned/experienced studying
yoga, meditation, somatics, and non ordinary states of consciousness might
be of interest.
Have you ever been banned from another hackerspace? If so, when and why?:
Nope
abolish sexual violence etc? don't be a dick. stop dickish behavior when
seen.
end extinction etc? devise open source solutions for post-capitalistic
society
freedom etc? decentralization, cryptography, open source again
contact? email
schedule? open. probably drop in during the day, and for events.
problem for you? nope.

=== Rayc ===
Would you like to *very briefly* introduce yourself?
* Hi, I'm Rayc. I'm not an alcoholic.
What brings you to sudo room?
* No comment. The overwhelming awesomeness of sudo room and the omni
commons.
What do you want to hack or learn at sudo room (if you know)?
* I'd like to do some audio stuff, do some energy efficient improvements
for my car, work with maybe skill sharing, skill and knowledge exchange,
work on different projects that I've had on my mind for a while around
efficiency such as getting my car to run more efficiently. I like fixing
stuff, electronics, playing around with that, doing some audio stuff as
well. And I will further append this next month. I'm overwhelmed.
What do you want to share or teach at sudo room (if you know)?
* I want to teach people how to burn stuff efficiently, in a very safe,
focused, efficient manner. Definitely.
What's your plan to abolish sexual violence, police brutality and white
supremacy? in 10 words or less
* spreading empathy and understanding to the troubles those factors cause
What's your plan to end the anthropocene extinction, world hunger, global
warming and global inequality? in 10 words or less
* Globalization
What's your plan to ensure freedom and privacy of communication for all? in
10 words or lessexpectations
* Encryption. Encrypt the planet.
Have you ever been banned, asked to take a break, or similar, from a
hackerspace or any other collective?
* Hackerspaces (emphasis on plural). I have.
What are the best ways to contact you?
* Via email or my cell phone. Feel free to list it.
What is your schedule like? Do you have particular times that you think
you'll be around? You should check out our regular events!
* Probably in the evenings from 7-9 or 7-10, and on the weekends a bit more
flexibly, maybe during the day more.
Jenny read the SOS/etc policy stuff. "Is this going to be a problem for
you?"
* Not at all.

Hi all,
If you have borrowed any of the microscope objectives or eyepiece lenses
from CCL, please return them as soon as possible.
If you see any microscopes sitting out, that is likely because they are in
use on a regular basis, and they will be sorely missed if not in working
order! Please don't remove parts from lab equipment without checking with
someone first.
So, please return our lenses - no questions asked. We have a pretty good
idea exactly when they disappeared, but we'd rather not have to do the
detective work to figure out who was where when. Let alone having to
install cameras or lock up all of our lab gear, which defeats the purpose
of having a community lab.
Thanks!
Patrik
It turns out that sudo room suddenly has $8,600 in bitcoin!
How did this happen? I don't know!
I think we should immediately sell at least enough to pay our debt to Omni.
Any sudo members who think we shouldn't just sell every single bitcoin
right now while the price is high?

Subject: 2 Studio/Workshops available in West Berkeley
Excellent location and quiet spaces. Across the street from OSH Hardware
and Berkeley Bowl West, and on the same block as Discount Fabrics, The
Shipyard and Urban Ore, as well as easy street parking and access from
I-80. Safe industrial west Berkeley neighborhood right on the border with
Emeryville and Oakland.
Ideal uses are art, electronics, office, etc. No heavy fabrication please,
but light is ok. We want to avoid anything creating lots of noise or
fumes. Optional access to large open 2-story area for occasional projects
with loading dock. We have blazing-fast gigabit internet with symmetrical
pipes, so can be a good choice for big data, such as video production. 24
hour access permitted, but must respect nighttime quiet. Living in either
space definitely not permitted.
First space is semi-open 21' x 13' with 2-story ceiling and large amount of
natural light. Has existing workbench and plenty of power (240v/120v). $390
/ month including utilities (reasonable electrical use, internet, trash).
(Surfboards not included!)
Second space is 18' x 15' in a very private location on the second floor.
Has openable window overlooking Ashby. Only 120v electrical. $490 / month
including utilities (reasonable electrical use, internet, trash). The desk
and drafting table pictured are included, but can be removed if
desired. (sorry,
the dressers are not included).
Please email for details or to arrange a visit!
…Where the adhesive is conductive. I just need to have a small piece. I
have some on order but have a time pressed project I want to move forward
on.
Thanks,

does anyone on this list have a solenoid? something that can pull a pound or
two of force, from a distance of 1/4" or more, ideally. 12-24 volts would be
great, although we could do 120V if necessary.
thank you

after you guys left i got both X and Y axes working properly, in the correct
direction, and the endstops too! now i was even able to home it!
here's the repo:
https://github.com/sudoroom/Marlin/tree/quickcircuit
marlin can be uploaded with regular arduino, it's an arduino mega 2560
we still need to enter the correct values for stuff like
DEFAULT_AXIS_STEPS_PER_UNIT
DEFAULT_MAX_FEEDRATE
DEFAULT_MAX_ACCELERATION
although really only the first one is necessary.
then we need to either find a solenoid or use this servo to do the Z axis, and
configure marlin to control it appropriately from a Z command or whatever Z
instruction gets produced by stuff like PCB2GCODE

I'm starting to play around with electrowetting (specifically the OpenDrop)
and I'm having trouble finding a source for extruded ETFE film of a
thickness of at most 50 micrometer.
Any ideas?
Anyone have experience with ultra hydrophobic coatings or spin coating?

*Join us for our Microscopy meetup tomorrow morning at CCL
<https://www.meetup.com/Counter-Culture-Labs/events/241864024/>! *We'll
have something for newbies and experts alike...
We'll give a tour of the microscopes we have available at CCL, show you
which one to use for which purpose, how how to use them, and which ones to
prioritize for repair. Feel free to bring in your own scope if you have
one, and we'll be happy to teach you how to use it (and/or diagnose what's
wrong with it...)
For the microscopy experts, we'll also go over the fancy super-resolution
STED microscope we've just been donated by BioCuriuous! This kind of
equipment would normally start in the $200K range. A dedicated team at
BioCurious spent more than a year building this one from scratch
<https://sites.google.com/site/biocuriousmicroscopewiki/>, starting from
the microscope engine out of a donated GA IIx DNA sequencer - a piece of
machinery that probably cost well over $500K itself when it was new just a
few years ago. A truly unique piece of equipment.
STED microscopy <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/STED_microscopy> is one of
the techniques used to break the diffraction limit in optical microscopy,
allowing visualization of subcellular structures that were previously only
accessible using electron microscopy!
We are looking to build an expert user group around this new instrument, so
come join us and help us get it up and running to do some awesome science
with it!
Patrik
there is a bicycle frame without wheels, a fender, and five wheels and three
tires floating around sudoroom, as well as two bicycles that do not belong to
anyone who is here right now.
I don't think people should be using sudoroom as a place to store their
vehicles, and large projects like bicycles should not be stored here except for
very limited situations like a project that takes more than one day.
People have been working very hard on cleaning up the space and the electronics
waste pile is huge. It will be cleared out soon and I hope we can deal with
the bicycles too, and then we can start looking at other large items like the
embroidery machine and juki sewing machine table, and get those out of here.
If anyone knows whose bicycle frame and wheels these are, or whose whole
bicycles these are being stored here, please ask them to take them somewhere
else when they're not visiting sudoroom.
what do people think of that?
-jake
Hey Commoners,
I'll be helping out with this event Saturday morning 10am-1pm. stop by the
ballroom if it sounds interesting to you.
How can science be used as a tool for liberation?
Scientists and community organizer, Kendra Krueger, guides us through a
process of reclaiming science as a tool for personal and social liberation.
We’ll take a look at decolonizing the language of our current scientific
paradigm and exploring the intersections of science, social justice, art
and intuitive technologies. Using movement, games and physics we’ll
reintegrate the analytical and intuitive mind and discover new methods to
liberate our mind, body and spirit through knowledge, knowing and finding
out.
